Who can take part?

In order to qualify, you will go through a screening process which may include blood tests, a physical exam, an ECG, and a bone marrow evaluation.

See if you may qualify

You or your loved one CAN join the study if you:

  • Are 18 years or older
  • Are newly diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia (AML)
  • Have been told by your doctor that you cannot receive strong chemotherapy. Strong or intensive chemotherapy means higher doses of cancer medicines that can be harder on the body. This study is for people whose doctors don't recommend that type of treatment
  • Have mutations (genetic changes) in either of the following genes: KMT2A or NPM1. This will be determined by a test performed before or during screening by your doctor

You or your loved one CANNOT join the study if you:

  • Acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL)
  • A history of myelofibrosis
  • Received an organ transplant
What to expect as a participant

The cAMeLot-2 study has 3 parts: Screening, Study Treatment, and Follow-up.

Screening: During Screening, you will have tests and procedures to see if you qualify to participate in the cAMeLot-2 study.

Study treatment: During study treatment, you will receive two approved AML treatments. The standard treatment consists of oral and intravenous (IV) or subcutaneous injections. In addition, you will also receive the study drug OR a placebo. The study drug or placebo is taken orally. You will participate in regular clinic visits and tests to see how you’re doing and how the study treatments may be working. You will continue to take the study treatments until your study doctor thinks it is no longer safe or effective for you or your leukemia — or until you decide to stop taking them.

Follow-up: After you stop the study therapies, the clinical staff will contact you about every 3 months to ask about your overall health, your AML, and your current medications.
